Mine is an Acer:
Hold the Function (Fn) button down on the left, and the arrow up/or/down (increase/decrease) on the right.

click start, go to control panel, open up sounds properties, then click on show on system tray, that should do the trick.

It depends on your computer hardware and which operating system you have. If you didn't hear me, just turn up the volume . . . oh, yeah . . . sorry! ;)
