I am the administrator at our office. i have a male coworker who is a very nice guy. Very friendly. We go to lunch sometimes or have conversations in the morning. However, he has mentioned how we should hang out outside of work, etc. the office associates have my cell # in case they need something..but he sends me texts to say "hi how is your day?" and "when are we going to hang out?" it's getting more frequent. I know it's just friendly, and not meaning to be flirtatious..but i don't think it's professional. i'm a strong believer in keeping work and personal life separate. So far, i've just been avoiding the topic of hanging out...eluding the answer...

how can i tell him without making him feel bad? i don't want to lose our lunches or morning conversations.

I would just tell him in a friendly way that it's against your professional beliefs as an authority figure at work to fraternize with other employees outside of work. Tell him you really like him as a person, but it's not a good idea to obscure the boundaries between your professional and personal lives.

I also have to say it sounds to me like he IS being flirtatious. I think he may have feelings for you that go beyond the working environment. I could be wrong...but I don't' think I am.

I know exactly what you mean about work life and private life. Just tell him that you want to keep him as a work friend and you don't think it would be good to hang out after work because of the office gossip. If he can't handle that, then he apparently had "other" ideas. Good Luck!

Ask him to calm down on the texting.. especially at work. Just be nice about it if you're still wanting to keep the lunches and conversations. Tell him just what u said.. that u like to be professional at work and not play around.

I would tell him you think he is nice and you enjoy his company in the office but you are the administrator and you honestly have to keep it on business level. Its not appropreate to mix business with personal. I would say you enjoy your office time with him but its in your best interest not to have personal calls or a out side of the office relationship with him. Hope this helped. Best wishes.

Just explain it like you did above. If he can't accept it gracefully, then maybe he isn't the professional you thought he was.
