There have been lots of different Secretaries of State of the United States. This position, besides putting the person 4th in line to the presidency behind the vice-pres., speaker of the house, and president of the senate, can be very instrumental in the manner in which countries get along with the U.S. Recent Secretaries of State have included Colin Powell, Condoleeza Rice, Margaret Albright, along with other famous ones such as Henry Kissinger, Dean Rusk, John Foster Dulles, etc. Who was the best, in your opinion, and why? Who was the worst?

I like Powell. But his lying to the UN to get us into the Iraq war was a terrible mistake. He bowed to those in power instead of standing up for his own convictions and for truth. So I will say the Powell was the worst S.O.S. that I remember.

Cordell Hull may have been the best. He was in the position for a long time including during WW2, was a founding father of the UN, and won a Nobel Peace Prize.
