Note: A deficit is how much money you owe in a period, a debt is the accumulation of all deficits. Example: You buy a cheeseburger with a credit card, you have a $1 deficit. You do the same for a whole month, and at the end of the month you will have a $31 debt.

How do you feel about America having a deficit? It is strangling America and building up debts that our children and grandchildren will one day have to pay for.

Why is being conservative a better choice? It is not. Being an American is a better choice. If you are not a part of the solution, you are a part of the problem.

How do you feel about America having a large national debt? last year we paid a half a trillion dollars on interest alone on this huge debt we have amassed. It is obscene.

Why do you feel that America has such a large national debt? the Bush wars have contributed to our huge debt as well as borrow and spend politicians.

What is your solution for solving the national debt? we must have a balance budget. Less spending. Less government corruption.

I am a 59 year old Democrat. Since 1980 we have had deficit spending during Republican administrations. I think we are selling out our country with our national debt. The Chinese now basically own us. Deficit spending and national debt is basically because of cutting taxes without cutting spending. Clinton balanced the budget. Bush has been fighting a war with a credit card. To solve the national debt we need to start making the rich pay their fair share of the taxes. They control most of the wealth. Their taxes should be proportional to the amount of wealth that they control. We need to end Bush's tax cuts. Next we need to stop funding a war that is doing nothing to protect us or further our interests. Investing in guns (war, bombs, expensive and unnecessary missile defense systems that don't work) does not strengthen the economy. Investing in butter (education, health care, food and shelter for the poor) does. We need to use any surplus to pay down the debt. You didn't mention that if you don't pay for that $31 worth of cheeseburgers for a year you will owe $40 because of interest and fees. Vote Democratic.

Over fifty-five
Libertarian but will vote for who ever can get the job done.
Having a deficit is criminal and we were close to fixing that.
I do not like debt it could affect all our entitlements.
Having debt reduces your purchasing power and influence.
The main cause of debt is a war time economy and the inflation that is caused.. Just because the fed says print more money does not mean we have more money it just means the money we do have is worth less.
The way to get out of debt is to stop spending money....Stop fixing the world.....Stop funding foreign powers.... There is merit to feeding the starving and healing the sick it is just cheaper than dropping bombs on them.

I am one who voted in the 80's, my party affiliation is Constitutional, and about the debt, not all debt is bad. I'm invest in things that will bring a higher return, and thus make more money in the long run.
If you buy cheeseburgers with borrowed money, you are foolish, but if you borrow to buy the burger stand, your money will increase over time.

None
Deficit is okay, only in very small amounts for short term needs.
Bad.
Worse

Solution: Taxes have to be raised, spending lowered. The best way to do either or both and make sure it's done in an effective and equitable way - change laws for public financing of elections, since the system of legalized bribery that currently exists has corrupted our government processes. Outlaw professional lobbying, pass an amendment or law declaring that corporations do not have individual human being rights under our government, since they are artificial entities and have no humanity, and overthrow the Supreme Court decision that equates money to speech.

no party affiliation.

deficit is bad and will be the ultimate ruin of our nation.

debt is bad and will be the ultimate ruin of our nation.

we have a bad debt situation because our leaders have no disipline, scruples, morals or self control and are more concerned with re-election than the health of the nation or it's people.

to solve this problem we need a constitutional amendment enforcing congressional term limits and hefty prison sentences in hard time prisons for elected officials who take bribes.
eliminate all lobbyists.

change congressional and executive branch work ethics. those who work in govt should get two weeks vacation, standard weekends off and the first order of business each day in congress should be 'attendance' if a congressperson is 'tardy' or absent a certain number of times, their expulsion from the congress should be mandated and a new election held.

our govt needs some tough love - we need to get the current would-be criminals and lobbyists out of govt and replace them with bright, hard working AMERICANS!

why is being conservative better?
THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING LIBERAL OR CONSERVATIVE - PUT AN END TO THAT KIND OF TALK AND GROW UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-41
-Democratic
-Deficit in and of itself is not a disaster, depends on magnitude

-The debt is a huge problem

-The abysmal Reagan created our current staggering debt, quadrupling what the debt was under Carter by the end of his term. Bush 43 pushed it into the stratosphere.

-First, reinstate the Clinton era "pay as you go". Cut the Iraqi welfare state loose and then we will still have an enormous amount of work to do.
