Your options depend on where you live.
Of course satellite is always available no matter where you live, but it is a tad expensive, and suffers from transmission delays which are not good for online gaming.
If cable is available to you, it is usually comparably priced with DSL. Some places offer a microwave service which is inexpensive and fast, but requires a line-of-sight with one of their towers.

I live in the country and have the same problem.
- Don't dog dial up. I'm using it and it's not that bad for the price.
- You can get wireless through a satellite company.
- If you can't get dsl odds are you CAN'T get cable.
- You can get wireless on a laptop through a cell phone company.
Good luck! I chose dial up- much cheaper!!!

Cable internet service may be available in your area if you are lucky. It is often faster and more reliable than DSL anyway.
If not, there are companies that provide internet service via satellite, but it is expensive, and traditionally required a dial-up to upload, being download only.

You could pay an arm and at least half of a leg (probably your favorites but maybe not) to get a card to poke in your pc from, say, Verizon or some place like that, but, you'd have to check, maybe even THAT's not available!

Most Cable TV providers offer a high speed internet package that piggybacks on your cable service. Contact your local Cable TV provider about their high speed internet packages.

If you can get cable TV, it's possible to get Internet access via cable. Another possibility is satellite, but that's generally more expensive.
