n 1- 3 evaluate each expression. 1. 150 - 6(19 - 7) 2. 16 divided by 8 over 4 + 5 3. ( t + a) ( 2a - t) if t = 9 a = 16 4. A formula for finding a baseball player's batting average is A = H over B, where A stands for batting average, H stands for hits and B stands for at bats. The number A is rounded to the nearest thousandth. In 1992, Gary Sheffield of San Diego Padres had the highest batting average in the American League with 184 hits in 557 at bats. Let's express it in mathematical figures:

1. 150 - 6(19 - 7) : this translates to (150-6)(19-7)... the parentheses also implies multiplication so subtract the figures first before multiplying. therefore,

= (144)(12) or 144*12
ans: 1,728

2. 16 divided by 8 over 4 + 5 ... again express it in figures
so, (16/8)/(4+5)... here, i used the parentheses to group the numbers but it doesn't mean multiplication

= 16 over 8 is equal to 2 --> or 16/8 =2, and 4+5=9
where we arrive at an answer that is a fraction
ans: 2/9

3. ( t + a) ( 2a - t) if t = 9 a = 16... just replace the symbols in the equation with the equivalent numbers given... here again, the parentheses mean multiplication after adding the numbers inside them.
=(9 + 16) (2(16) - 9))
= (25) (32-9)
= (25) (23) or 25 * 23
ans: 575

4. Formula (batting ave): A = H over B
where A - batting average (?)
H - hits (184)
B - bats (557)
Note: The number A is rounded to the nearest thousandth.

Using the formula:
A = 184 / 557
A = 0.330 (answer!... we rounded it to the nearest thousandth since that's the instruction. the actual answer is 0.3303411131)

1. 150 - 6(19 - 7) == 78
2. 16 divided by 8 over 4 + 5 == not enough information
3. ( t + a) ( 2a - t) if t = 9 a = 16 == 230
4. 184/557 = .3303

I was never good at math but I suppose I'll give it a shot...

1. 78
2. 2 over 9
3. 1,025
4. too impatient to average it

I have no idea if I did any of those right because I can't remember half the crap I learned in high school but at least I gave it a shot.
