I recently got an update from DELL and WINDOWS and now I cant rip cd's. What do I need to do to change this to allow me to function as before?

I use windows media player and I am on XP Home sp2 running on a dell dimension 5000

try stop wmp from updating licences for music and move the location of your music folder..this may work
goto your control panel and through your uninstal get rid of the last update
or
do a system restore.

added: I forgot the obvious answer... check media player rip settings to make sure it's set to your cd drive as an update may have altered this setting.

What program are you trying to use? Windows Media Player or Winamp (use direct to disk plugin) do good jobs of ripping.
