Is it contradictory for me as a middleclass, multiracial individual to simulteniously claim full equality and take advantage of racially-motivated law school scholarships?

I have mixed feelings on this. I don't think it's contradictory to use a system in place, and I'm 100% for equality.

I find it more disappointing that such systems are needed to some degree. I do believe it gives unfair advantage to minority groups, but if it weren't for those programs, I believe we would still see an unfair disadvantage.

So, I don't find using it contradictory, but I don't see a fair balance either way.

I'm not going to tell if it is right or wrong, because that is very opinionated.

I will say that affirmative action does not promote racial equality. It is unconstitutional. It gives a person an unfair advantage over another. It goes against the 14th amendment.

Unless you want everyone to be truly equal, do NOT accept benefits from such a unfair program. You have all the opportunities you need today to succeed.

It is not contradictory if you are still trying to figure out what your opinion is. If you are not sure that you are opposed, for instance.

You can decide whether or not you want to 'take a stand' here, but I only take a stand when I am sure.

I myself have very mixed feelings about affirmative action, as a middle class white guy. My feelings are mixed because I want there to be equality, for race to be a 'non-issue', and while I am all for helping people out, I am not sure affirmative action programs are successful at reaching that goal. As they'll say in law school "the jury's still out on that."

good luck dude

people now cant realy say this world is oh so racist when it really isn't nowadays. But take advantage of everything you get. It sadens me when young black males don't take advantages of all the equal oppertunities now a days. Colleges nowadays are looking to enroll black students and want them there. Too bad a lot of that oppertunity is wasted. There are so many possible things. GO AND TAKE IT! You can't complain about racism because nowadays it isn't even that. The only person stopping you is you!

If by 'affirmative action' you mean someone gets a boost up because of their racial back ground, that's NOT racial equality, regardless of the race.

Q. Is it wrong to desire racial equality and accept benefits of affirmative action programs?

A. NO

The only reason affirmative programs exist because the majority of power-controlling populace in any society, want to retain the stranglehold to that power. Unless such efforts are initiated, minorities in that country will always remain oppressed.

True equality exists in only those cases where there is "true" acceptance of one and all. As long as there is no level-playing field, it's perfectly acceptable to demand affirmative action.
