I am totally for equal rights, and that everyone, no matter what the color of their skin, be treated equally. But has equal rights gone too far? African American people set up scholarship funds set up, exclusively for those with brown skin, but if anyone tried to make a White people scholarship fund, they would get in big trouble, and be considered horrible people.

I understand that African Americans have had a hard past, but weren't people like MLK and Rosa Parks shooting for EQUAL rights. Now, there are as many prejudices against blacks as there are whites, yet African Americans are getting even more opportunities.

I understand that some of you think that I am being racist, however, I am totally against people being treated unequally. I think that we should look at the person on the inside, and not think about their sexual orientation, or their race. The point I was trying to make was that things that African Americans do, if done the same, but by and for white people, would

would be dubbed RACIST, and would be considered completely unequal.

Is it fair to have African American only scholarships, beauty pageants, awards, and such? Isn't it just pulling them out from the crowd, and making them 'too good for everyone else'? I am not trying to insult anyone with this question, I am just curious to what everyone else thinks. And I’m talking about African Americans because you don’t see many movies about Native Americans, and who’s ever heard of ‘Miss Asian USA’?

white-only scholarships and perks still do exist, they're just more craftily disguised - and they still outnumber black-only causes.

I remember filling out some sort of online scholarship database and it asked me about my heritage- because there are scholarships based on your ethnic origins like someone who may be Spanish-Lithuanian or less complicated like having a German background. It also asked about my religion and what I planned to study.

I don't understand the comment how African-Americans are getting even more opportunities. More opportunities than what. Historically, African-Americans have been underrepresented in higher education (why is a whole other topic and easily researched if you are interested) and hopefully these scholarships help level the playing field. Scholarships are generally not general - you have to fit into someone's criteria- sometimes race or religion might be part of it and sometimes it is something esoteric like you must be a left handed violin player who wants to study Bioethics.

As far as beauty pageants - I think anyone could set up any kind of pagent with certain criteria that excludes others. Recently, there was a PBS documentary about Miss Navajo (http://missnavajomovie.com/about.html). It was really cool. It was a way to learn more about their culture and history and language and be role models to the community.

Are you pulling the race card? Every race has those who look out for their own. How many blacks have you seen working at the Chinese restaurant. Nobody complains about that. But why are you just targeting African-Americans? There are Irish scholarships, and Jewish scholarships. I'm sure African-Americans have a fair shot at those. White people still have their ways of segregated progression. Its not right either way but don't think that white people aren't getting theirs too.

I see you read my question on the POLITICS tab and re-worded it.Unfortunately, there is not likely to be a clear answer here, either.Injustice is injustice, even if it is not recognized because it is endured by whites in an effort to remain POLITICALLY CORRECT
