ok im not only talking about the blacks but other ethnic groups too....
Did you guys realize in italy if you dont have money the government will change your babies name? What if they did that in america?
So the main question is do you think the government should be able to change babies names??
this is taken from an article
When the boy was about five months old, a city hall clerk brought the odd name to the attention of a tribunal, which informed the couple of an administrative norm which bars parents from giving "ridiculous or shameful" first names to children.

For the most part I think that naming your child is personal and that the government should not be able to change it. If kids do not like their name; the parents will hear about it for the rest of their lives. Or the kid will change it when they get old enough. Now days kids change their name unofficially, going through school they tech their friends what they like to be call. But, no the government should not be able to change a child's name against the parents well.

We would never do this in America, but I don't think that black people are the worst offenders of the made-up name rage in our country. I think of all the white trash that name their children Ryliegh or Kayley or whatever nonsense they can think up. I wonder if your quote refers to the Italian baby named "Friday." I don't think that's half as bad as the fools here that want their kids to have 'creative' names (they end up sounding like soap opera wanna be's or pole dancers).
Never heard of a Harvard grad named 'Shylee.' LOL!

No, I don't think they should be able to change names, but some people need to be less creative. Some names that children get are cruel and some just show how stupid their parents are! One of the worst names I have ever seen was a baby boy named Jada ( a girls name) Cuz. Poor kid.

Yes, I think the government should have this power. Just like the government should have the power to take away your kids if you are abusing them. Some people don't want the government to be involved in people's business at all...but I respect the government and appreciate that it looks out for the rights of its citizens...maybe the people who oppose govt intervention in anything would feel different if they were innocent babies whose only mistake was being born to dirtbags....sorry, this doesn't apply to the whole name thing (:
"Friday" wasn't a bad name. "Douchebag" is a bad name.
May anyone who disagrees with me be born to a couple who names them something foul in their next life. Karma.

I don't think that's right at all. It should be up to the parents or parent what they name their child.
This takes governmental control to a whole new level. It's completely wrong that any government tell anyone what they can and can not name their children.

What an odd thing! I think the government is in our business enough! Some people do need to pick different names for their kids but come on----we already have to do pretty much whatever the government says--can't they just let us pick names for OUR kids?

I heard this news story. Although Friday would not be my first choice, it isn't a horrid name. Here in America we can name kids River, Apple, and Ash. That was a waste of court money for sure in that case.

First of all, there are LOTS of white people who give their kids ridiculous names too.
Yes, it's annoying, yes, they are pre-destining their kids to get picked on in school and possibly discriminated against in the workplace,
But I don't like the idea that the government can tell you what to name your kids. That's the beauty of our nation, is FREEDOM.

I agree, there should be more than just GLBT in the cultures and groups. Why just us. There r plenty of other groups that could be placed in that category. I'm going to write to the almighty ones.
