The limit setting works because it kicks off the burners when they get up to temp. but the fan will not kick on unless I manually turn it "on" on the t-stat. The limit switch is only 3 weeks old and I know I will have to buy a new one to fix the furnace but I need to know why this one would go bad after just 3 weeks??

As soon as the new fan limit switch was installed the furnace did function correctly for about 3 weeks. Then with this Texas weather I cut the ac on for a week and when I cut the heater back on the fan wouldnt come on just like before.

Some times it is just a component failure. Rare, but it does happen. Did the system operate correctly after the new switch was installed? Was the installation done by a qualified/ experienced person? Was there any power outage or surges before the switch failed? Many furnace systems have multiple limit switches in the system, and an electronic sensing board, all must work correctly.
My own furnace was a problem for several years whenever a N wind blew, problem was solved with a plastic T on the exhaust line to change the differential pressure to the inlet pipe.
Hope this helps, if all else fails, call an energy service company to do the repair. Good luck, and Happy Holidays. Jim.
