It could, but more likely it would be Obama/Edwards than Edwards/Obama. I don't know if Edwards would take the 2nd fiddle job again, but I don't think he will beat Obama. (And Obama is NOT Irish! There is no ' in his name!)
As for the other side, I don't know if Huckabee has staying power and I doubt that McCain will win the nomination. If Huckabee does win the Nomination he would be wise to chose someone like McCain as his running mate to bring a bit of balance to the ticket.

The Obama/Edwards team I believe is very likely. The GOP side is a toss up but the Huck/McCain combo is a possibility although I think the rep nom would likely choose one of the other frontrunners in an effort to garner the most support possible like a Guiliani/Romney team.

I'd give Edards a 5% chance of winning the Dem. nomination, and Huckabee about a 15% chance of winning the Republican nomination. Multiply those together and you get a less than 1% chance (.75%, to be exact) of those two facing off for the Presidency, and that assumes that both of them pick Obama and McCain as their VP's.

I'm not sure it really matters. The Dem candidates cannot win. I just don't see either Hillary or Barack winning in a general election. The Democratic party has got to get out of this bad track record of nominating unelectable candidates. You can even go back to Bill Clinton. The only reason he got elected (with only 42% of the vote) was because Ross Perot entered the race and took 20% away from Bush Sr. If it wasn't for Perot, Clinton would never have been elected.

I think it will come to Obama vs Huckabee.
Huckabee has a strong conservative grassroot support while Obama has support from minorities and immigrants.
I would even venture a guess that Huckabee would win. Fewer members that are in lower socio-economic who would typically support Obama vote. Conservatives tend to have more money and are more likely to vote.

I never thought I would say this. But McCain is the best Republican for the job.
I had been favoring Romney, but his religion speech lost me because he implied that one has to be religious to be moral.
Huckabee lost me with his comment about Mormonism, Jesus, and the devil which was a dirty political trick.
