I am a second grade teacher. One of my female students, an hispanic girl, said - "I wish I was born a white girl!"

I, being white, asked - "Why?"

Her response was, "Because you get everything you want. White girls get everything they want!"

This is not meant to be a racist thing, I am just wondering what other people think!

I was cracking up when she said this. I WISH I got everything I wanted!!!

You need money to get what you want in most cases. so if you
are a white girl without money you don't get. Money talks OK. BS walks.

I don't think that's a racist statement so don't worry about it.
I have Hispanic, Oriental and Black neighbors and their kids come over to visit when my nephew is here. They clean the house out of food and play with his toys like there is no tomorrow.

I've asked them why. They all say it's because mommy or daddy doesn't give us cookies and snacks and doesn't buy us toys. I asked them why and the kids say it's because their parent say they can't afford to.

Now I've taken note and they drive new SUV's, have the most recent cell phones jammed in their ears all the time and wears some pretty nice clothes. I hear the stereo thumping and I've seen the big screen TV in their house. I even know one couple that sends their kids out to play while they eat dinner that they won't share with their kids. So obviously, it's a matter of priorities and after seeing this occur time and time again, I'd say the priority of the parents aren't their kids well being (not to say the neglect them) but instead, with making their own lives comfortable. That's the difference, I'm more concerned with my nephews needs and well being than I am my own and I gladly do without so he can have his snacks, toys or anything else. Some might call it spoiled, I call it caring. He doesn't get everything he wants but I sure don't have a new car, a cell phone or nice clothes in lieu of him having food to eat, toys to play with and being well dressed.

I'm sure I'm gonna get called a racist for those comments...

The Hispanic girl sees a trend. She sees that white girls appear to be better off then she is. She is generalizing that if she was white she too would get everything that she wanted. It is really sad that in second grade she already has her mind made up about this ugly world.
You should encourage her that she can have whatever she wants in the world too. Tell her that if she too can succeed, and that life isn't about getting things handed to you. She has to work twice as hard to get a leg up in this country.

generally it seems that white people have always got what they wanted starting back years and years ago. I think that people view being white as getting whatever you want because in America it is true! White people can definetely get away with more things, have a better chance of a job/education, and many other things that i couldn't possibly name.

Wow, I wish I had everything I could want, too! There are billions of people who aren't white that can get anything they want.

Well I, being a single white male with no kids, can't even get government help for my most basic of healthcare needs. Unemployment sucks.

It's very sad that she's being indoctrinated like that at such a young age. That would be like her saying she wished she were Oriental because they're so good at math and science! At best, this is stereotyping.
