A credit or debit card has to be insured to get your money back. Even if the police try to track down the purchase, you are still out your money.

Sorry to hear that. If the police won't help then you could seek legal advice for civil recovery of the money.

Can I ask what how you were scammed, and what for?

Edit: his "new" site has been shut down. But here are the details.

Domain name:
nintendo-wii-store.co.uk

Registrant:
Peter Webb

Registrant's address:
NINTENDO WII STORE
602 Lincolngate
Manchester
M4 4AD

What was his original domain name? I'll see if I can get those details too...

Get in touch with your bank immediately. There should be an 800 number you can call. Explain what happened. They will credit the amount to your account and forward a claim form. Should be corrected in a matter of a few days, but time is of the essence.

Did you buy of a dodgy website or did you "win a laptop" or something? If your not insured its within your rights to go to the bank and cancel any payments that may have been made.

But to be honest you should be already covered for fraud or anything so contact your card company

It's a sad fact that only credit and not debit cards are insured for fraud and theft. I feel sorry for you, but I'm afraid you're stuck between a rock and a hard place with this.

call your bank and they will investigate

if it is a fraud and YOU havent spent that money then the bank should take action

it may be that you go through lot of hassle and fill up forms and declarations etc etc but at the end hope you get your money back
