If you are in the US, you have a fundamental right to represent yourself regardless of the severity of the charges. However, there is much truth in the quotation that "he who represents himself has a fool for a client."

Bad idea. Very bad. You CAN represent yourself...so you're ABLE. It's just foolhardy in most instances.

If you're going to plead guilty and just respectfully request leniency, you can certainly do that. No sense having a lawyer say it for you. Dress nicely, be respectful, throw yourself on the court's mercy, and hope for the best. You can even make the point that "I'm here to take responsibility...I'm appearing without counsel."

If you're going to litigate it, you need an attorney.

Sure, go for it. You have the right to no lawyer. Bigger chance of losing to. Odds not in your favor. Which I don't feel nothing for you, if you did assault someone, other than in self-defense.

Someone said " He who represents himself has a fool for a client.''

The money is well invested in lawyers if you need to stay employed outside of jail.

What Bill said is correct, but if this is "NOT" your first offence of a criminal nature, get a lawyer. It would pay not to take a chance like that.

If you were incapable of making the proper choices that got you the assault change in the first place ? what makes you think you are capable of being your own attorney?
