2000 - Frank Thomas over Giambi.

Thomas hit .328 with 43 Home Runs and 143 RBI. Giambi had comperable numbers, but Thomas did not have the kind of support around him in the lineup that Giambi did.

2007 - A-Rod - no problem, clear cut winner

2006 - Don't know how Morneau got it over Jeter - though, Rivera would have been my choice in 2006. I dislike giving it to pitchers, but Mo literally saved their season.

2005 - David Ortiz carried the Sox, but voters have something against DH's - clearly superior to A-Rod that year.

2004 - Vlad; I'd have gone with Manny in '04 - but it's not outrageous; Guererro had a great year

2003 - A-Rod - complete joke to give it to a guy on a last place team because he leads the league in HR. Manny or Delgado deserved it more.

2002 - Tejada - a pathetic choice as well. .862 OPS!!! come on! Manny had another great year, but was short on AB's. Thome would be my choice, but Giambi, Bernie, and A-Rod all deserved it more (A-Rod was still on a last place team, but much better than he was in '03)

2001 - Ichiro - I can't really argue with this, but I think Giambi deserved it more (we didn't know he was on steriods then)

2000 - Giambi won because Oakland finished first. Delgado had the better year and was more valuable though. I'd have given it to Pedro Martinez - his 2000 season was possibly the single greatest in over 80 years.

1999 - I-Rod - another awful choice. Manny was the clear choice: .333/44/165, come on!

1998 - Juan Gonzalez - king of the empty numbers. Probably his best year, but Bernie Williams deserved it more, or even Albert Belle

I'll reach just a wee bit further back to one of the most wretched selections in living memory:

1996 -- Juan Gonzalez over Alex Rodriguez. Just awful.

1998 -- Gonzalez (again) over Albert Belle, though this one was not as heinous as '96.

1999 -- Ivan Rodriguez over Pedro Martinez. This was Pedro at his very peak; if this pitching performance could not win MVP, no pitcher can win in the current conditions.

Could argue Pedro in 2000 as well, he was even better, but what's the point?

2001 -- Ichiro Suzuki over Jason Giambi, even knowing now what we didn't know then.

2006 -- Morneau over anyone. He had a good season, but it was his narrative value that carried the voting. Several players had better seasons on the field.

2006 - Derek Jeter was clearly the AL MVP but Justin Morneau somehow got the votes.

Definitely has to be Ortiz losing out to A-Rod.
