it means post scriptum, most people just say post script.
it's an additional message or "script" after you have completed the original. like if you forgot to add something, you couldn't go back and squeeze it in if you're writing in ink...so you had to add more writing (script) after (post) the message you had already completed!

P.S means postscript, it's used to add something to a letter/essay/ect once it's finished.
