I am on the pill and I still get periods, but they only last for 2 or 3 days now... is this just the pills shedding, like the normally do? How would I know if I am pregant? If I am, its been about 2 almost 3 months. Im worried because my stomach is getting bigger, but I don't know if I am gaining weight or maybe pregnant!

When I was 38 years old, my children were 18, 15, and 12. I had been successfully on birth control pills for 11 years. I went to my doctor for my regularly scheduled yearly physical. It was at that appointment that I found out I was pregnant. I had no typical pregnancy symptoms, but had developed an unusual thing in that whenever I ate my stomach would hurt. I had not missed a period although the one just before my appointment seemed to be lighter and shorter than usual. I had to have an ultrasound done to find out how far along I was and we were all shocked to find out I was 17 weeks along already. Using that as a guide, I had 2 normal periods and the one shorter one while I was pregnant. I stopped taking the Pill and didn't have another period while pregnant. My doctor said it was the hormones that made my body think it still needed to have a period. In my case, because of my stomach pain, I was losing weight because I wasn't eating that much. I agree with the above posters who suggest trying a home pregnancy test or you can go see your doctor. Before we discovered I was pregnant, my doctor said numerous things can affect your periods and she didn't think I was pregnant at first since I hadn't missed any pills nor had I taken any medication to interfere with the Pill's effectiveness. Even when taking the Pill correctly, it is not 100% effective at preventing pregnancy.

You should see your doctor and/or take a home pregnancy test. If you take a home test and it's positive, go to your doctor. But if you have a feeling that you may be pregnant even if the test is negative, you need to see a doctor.
