Because here in the year 2007, women are allowed to have ownership over their bodies.

Because back in the days when it was not, woman were force to get them in back Ally's from unqualified doctors who would do botched jobs that would leave some of some women would be scared for life not able to have children again, some would bleed to death after the procedure, some out of desperation would do it themselves by any means including the use of a clothes hanger.
With the feminist movement, and all the fights and demonstrations women went through to take back the rights to their bodies, am surprise that a woman would ask such a question. Now woman have the right to safe abortions, if or when she so chooses. It's her body it's her say.

because some women fall pregnant and are in circumstances where the baby would suffer if kept, for example if the mother is a young girl/living in poverty/homeless etc. i know these people shouldnt have unprotected sex in the first place but sometimes contraception doesnt work or they are ill-informed about sex and protection and the child would suffer if born into these situations. also some women fall pregnant due to sexual abuse in young girls or rape where again the child would suffer, its not the childs fault and they shoulnt have to suffer for their mothers mistakes. i would never have an abortion myself and i disagree with women knowingly not using brth control then casually having abortions. also if abortion was illegal women would still try to have abortions and be forced into having illegal abortions which would cost them hundreds of pounds and could endanger their lives.

Because Roe vs Wade decided that women have the right to choose.

It's not really the fact that abortion is legal. What's legal is a woman deciding to have an abortion. If she were denied an abortion, that would then be a violation of the law.

Im sorry but LYNNA... you made no sense at all!!! It 's legal because it's wrong!!!! Ya thats it.. It's legal because it's a womans choice! And sometimes it's medically necessary! I wish people would stop asking questions like this and stirring people up over the issue! It will be one of the issues that will never be fully resolved to everybody's preferences! Just like capitol punishment! why is that legal? your also killing a life? It's not worth arguing over on yahoo answers! If you illegalize abortion then girls will still do it and crime rate will go up! just like during prohibition people still got booze! People still get drugs these days! And I bet you in new jersey just because they banned the death penalty others will still take it upon themselves to murder a person who in another state would have been sent to death! It's a never ending cycle!

the reason that abortions are legal is because those that made it legal, think that it means that women should have control over their own bodies- however just because it is legal does not make something right- and by the way, there are 2 lives involved here- and the baby does not come out alive. However, if those women think that abortion is the easy way out, they are wrong- I have counseled women who have had abortions, and they wish that they never did

becasue the founding fathers did not leave a guide line for us, and since we have a very tuff time dealing with our own issues, it hasnt changed.
the thing is they are tring to limit the use and circumstances around getting one.
i am pro choice, if you cannot love or support a child *either mentaly or financaly, you should not have one, im one step removed from saying we need to make people get licences to have children i know that will never happen but it would be better then having an over flowing legal system full of children whos parents dont want them or couldnt support them.

There are some circumstances where abortion is needed.
I defiantly feel that more should be done on how easy it is to get an abortion.
Its far too easy and already i have had more than a handful of people i know have one... I was the strong one who decided to have my baby and i feel that i will be the happiest in the end!
Abortion is not something to take lightly. It needs to be thought through 1 million % bafire going through with it because its something you will never forget.

Because our law makers care more about these irresponsible women's rights than they do for our most precious citizens. Don't we live in a great society? NO!!!!!!!
It's no wonder we have so much crime, If you can kill your own child, why shouldn't you be able to rob a store???????????

EDIT:
To Lovin it
I can't stand Bush (HE IS A WASTE OF SKIN) but abortion is the only thing that he and I will ever agree on. He said in his campaign that he would get late term abortions banned, which of course he has not done.

First of all, becuase it was passed in the courts.

Secondly, because if it wasn't, women would seek out illegal means to get rid of unwanted pregnancies, which usually end up causing major health problems or death in the mother.

Thirdly, this is not a question for the pregnancy and parenting section. I'll tell you like I tell everyone else who posts these questions--take it to the politics section. There are moms here who don't want to talk about abortion. They want to talk about pregnancy and their children.

Because this is one f*ed up world where people seem to think that a baby is a part of their bodies & they can dispose of them just because the ''timing isn't right''
