Generally at 7 months it is easy to find the heartbeat. I'm sure they sent her over for an ultrasound to confirm what the midwife fears. Of course, the midwife could be wrong. I hope things work out for your friend. Make sure you are available if she needs you.

It depends on the position of the baby. I remember when I was about 5 months and they couldn't find the heartbeat, I freaked out, but the baby was just in a bad position and the Doppler couldn't pick it up. I walked for a little while and they tried again and found it in seconds.
I am about 32 weeks now and sometimes the baby likes to "hide" under my pelvis. My midwife just laughs because he/she only does it when they are trying to find something (heartbeat, sex of the baby, etc), he/she is basically showing their personality already.
That may be the case. Is your friend feeling fetal movement? If the baby is still moving around and everything else is normal I wouldn't worry too much.

My baby moves around a lot and they can't find her heartbeat sometimes. They just hook me up to an ultrasound and make sure they can see the heartbeat. It may not mean anything, unlike the dummy ahead of me (kleighs mommy) said. Dopplers aren't always reliable, this happened to me just a few weeks ago and I'm also seven months. A midwife wouldn't have a US machine so that's why they have to go to the hospital. Hope everything is ok though.

I'm six months and the other day they couldn't find my babies heartbeat either, normally his heartbeat is quite pronounced. They hooked up the ultrasound and we saw the heart beating. For some reason that stupid machine just couldn't pick it up and gave me a mini heart attack. Hopefully all is well with your friend as well.

well I am 6 months and my dr has had no problem finding my babies heart beat on doppler, he is a friggin pro and literally looks at my belly and plops it right down get s a strong and steady... well until last week when he couldnt get it anywhere for like 10 minutes, but he kept laughing, I was so angry and then he says SHE is just sooo active that everytime i put it on her she moves out of the way, she just wanted no part of cooperating that day, we finally did get one and he kept it for 60 seconds, could very well be her position, her movement, anything, I wouldnt worry until she has the ultrasound, please keep us posted, best of luck.

it depends on the position of the baby, your friend will probably have to go for a scan to check the baby, when i was pregnant with my first baby her heartbeat was always a nightmare to find. hopefully everything will be ok. hope everything turns out fine

they will just do an ultrasound. it is pretty common to have a hard time finding a heartbeat with just the doppler alone. dont' worry about your friend. sometimes they had a hard time finding my son't heartbeat but he was just fine.
