Yes (unless it is cubic zurconium, but it would have to be labeled as such). If you like the ring, who cares where it came from? If you like the boy, who cares what the ring looks like? He can probably get you a nicer ring this way than if he went to a jeweler. They all buy their rings from the same wholesalers.
Diamonds are rated on many qualities, including "luster". Your wal-mart isn't going to carry the expensive high end "high luster" diamonds that a jeweler might have available (the jeweler will have lower luster ones too), but if you like it - if it looks good to you, what does it matter? The expensive diamonds are probably out of his price range anyway, so even if he went to a jeweler, he'd get the same quality of diamonds, he'd just get less ring for his money.

Non-diamond engagement rings are pretty hot right now. Sapphire, ruby, and emerald are common choices. I've also seen some more unique ones, like citrine and amethyst. When you go into the jewelry store, just explain that you want a non-diamond engagement ring. Let the jeweler show you a variety of options. You can look at the rings that already have gemstones in them. Or you can pick out an engagement band and have any custom gemstone put in it instead of the diamond. You may also consider the meaning behind certain stones. For example, you could select your girlfriend's birthstone. Or, what it is gemstone that corresponds to the month you met?

Yes they are real diamonds, just not the best qualitiy. however, you want a diamond to sparkle and shine, if it has a small defect or flaw, that's fine, as long as it isn't something that you can see with the naked eye. My mother in law is a certified gemontologist and diamontologist, and she likes some of the walmart rings. and you can't beat the price. I will say though, check out www.jtv.com before you buy from walmart, they have great jewelry, and a lot cheaper than jewelry stores.

Dear Sweetone,
The diamonds must be real, but there are many kinds of diamonds out there. The cost depends on the cut, clarity, carat and size.
Take a little time to educate yourself before you buy the ring, whether it's at Walmart or somewhere else. You need to know what you are paying for.
For free advise on what to look for in a diamond, visit Engagement Ring Today, at http://www.engagementringtoday.com
You'll get lots of useful advise. And if your ring looks pretty to you, you'll get lots of enjoyment from it.
Best of luck!
Lynn

I read an article from a jeweller about damonds a while ago.
Most diamonds in rings are low quality, they go on grades and it would cost a fortune to get a top grade diamond in a ring.
He said people just can't tell the difference with the naked eye so it's a waste of money to spend thousands on a top quality ring. Which incidentally is only worth half of what you pay for it anyway.
People have their diamonds valued for insurance purposes and think that is what they are worth, it's not that's what it costs to buy another one.
Take your diamond along to any jewellers and ask you what they will buy it for or what you can sell it for privately and I guarantee it will be about half of what it is valued at.

Depends. Chips are relatively inexpensive. Something the size of the Hope Diamond though is probably a true and 100% authentic cubic zirconium straight from the diamonds mines in deepest, darkest factories.
But hey...it's the thought that counts.

They're probably real. The issue is that they are lower graded than what you buy at other jewelry stores. If you want to educate yourself about diamonds, go to:
http://www.bluenile.com/diamond_search.asp?filter_id=0&track=row_mod1&elem=miniheroHdr
This is their diamond search section. Look at their "Learn about Diamonds" link on the left side.

That depends - Walmart does have real diamonds- but not in all rings/jewelery. You will have to ask...or look at the tag - it says it right on it!
BTW -they won't lie to you- that would be a lawsuit waiting to happen!!!
