I would have to say both because sometimes friends are better than family and sometimes friends are family. the reason I say this is because I have a couple of friends who are better than my own family and I have a few friends that are like family to me. me, my husband, and our children try to spend Christmas with all our family and friends during Christmas even if it's only a hour or so each.

If the possible difference you mean is that loved ones includes friends, I tend to use Christmas for family and New Years for friends.

It is both. But I see my family all the time so it doesn't really seem that different. I'd like to see the extended family but there isn't enough time for that.

To me it doesnt matter. Some people cant be with family on the holidays, so they are with friends. I think its just where you feel more comfortable and loved.

I think with people who care about you and whom you care about....regardless if they are friends or family, sometimes friends are better than family and sometimes friends are family.
