Republicans are always howling about Bill Clinton and his affair with Monica. Yet one of their highest ranking Presidential Candidates is Rudy Guiliani, who tucked his mistress into the Gracie Mansion where his wife and family lived. There has been all kinds of stories concerning this romance, previous marriages that were hidden, taxpayer's money used to keep the mistress safe and sound. Along with that are stories of Rudy's friendship with a man now indicted for various crimes, a man that Rudy wanted to place in a top level Bush Administration job.
Considering the fact that Republicans thought Clinton's sexual mistakes were so horrifying, one would think that Guiliani's background would cause his poll numbers to be low. Is he, then, the epitome of morality and family values, those two virtues Republicans claimed they respect so much? How can the Republican Party seriously consider a man like this as President without admitting that Clinton's frolic was not so bad after all?

First of all, not all Republicans think the same.
Second, even if you do go by sterotypes, most Republicans do NOT agree with Rudy's stand on his social issues... they do not match our opinions.
The reason Rudy's numbers are so high is 2-fold. (well, 2 of the reasons are:)
1. The uneducated person will pick him because his name is well known and the media made him out to be a saint... they can look past his social opinions.
2. Republicans are being faced to decide on a candidate without having anyone who is perfect. They all have flaws, so most republicans right now are trying to decide, do I vote for someone who practices my beliefs but will probably lose in the primaries, or do I vote for someone who doesn't believe in my social values, but perhaps has a better chance of beating the Dems...
The world is not perfect.
But do not be fooled - most republicans do not support his social beliefs.

Oh so you know what Republicans think do you? I could care less what Monica did to Bill, or the other way around. He was CAUGHT red handed lying under oath and thus rightly impeached. Most Republicans feel the same. I don't believe Rudy to be any better than the Clinton's when it comes to the Morality factor. Then again neither will have my vote. Personally I just find the Clinton's horrifying period.

I stopped reading after: "Republicans are always howling about Bill Clinton and his affair with Monica."
The last time i heard a republican mention this, was during the impeachment trials, when the entire nation was talking about it. How often are republicans really "howling" about this.
As for Rudy, he's a douche-bag, everyone knows that except for the neo-con journalists. Don't worry, his support is not as big as they want you to think it is.

Is America not a permissive society ? Should these matters which are private between two consenting adults be given such prominence ? If their families objected; more particularly the disgruntled wives protest and make it public, then the state or others have any business to interfere. Otherwise it is just being hypocritical.

I believe our society is morally degrading itself. When I heard about Guiliani adulteress affair and travel expense to see visit his now wife, I decided he would not get my vote.
As for Hillary, if she becomes president, she should lock up the Oval Office. But, then with Bill's reputation . . . LOCK ALL THE DOORS!

What I'm wondering, is why do you have "Example of Morality and Family Values Republicans Claim They Believe" capitalized?

Rudy does not represent anything in the Republican party. I have no idea why he is seeking the nomination. He is not representative of any American family (married parents, 2 kids, house, middle class, small town).

I didn't think that Clinton did bad about messing with Monica... Look at Hillary look at Monica, no brainer if you ask me. What has me frosted, is in the middle of his sexual harrasment lawsuit, when it came to light about his affair he lied to the court, and to the american people. Had he came clean then, and said, "fellas, she's got the mouth of an angel"... I'd have been ok with it.

NO!!!
Absolute!
NO!!
Did he represent that when he told city officials to pave over human remains?
Did he represent that when he lied about the toxic dust levels at ground zero and sent thousands more firemen and rescue workers in to breath that dust and die a slow and miserable death through lung disease!
