Kamaki was traditionally a male activity on unsuspected or even suspected female tourists. It constituted one of the touristic attractions of Greece for a great number of years when the three S's were the main marketing product.
Sea, Sun and Sex was the motive and kamaki was the way to implement it.
The spreading fear of Aids somehow diminished the number of kamakia during the 80's and 90's, towards the foreign women and turned them towards the local females.
However, the change in morals and the freedom women felt during the recent years has turned the game the other way round. So nowadays, it is women that initiate the attack and all the moves, though in my mind it was always so, only in a more subtle way.

The days of the 'kamaki' are numbered! It was a big thing in the 70s/80s with the influx of foreign tourists who due to a different upbringing to Greek girls where seen as loose and easily 'caught'.
You can still find kamakis in tourist areas - but they tend to be older (and creepy in my opinion) The young kids nowadays are basically the same as elsewhere. Girls and guys date (even if the girl may still hide this from daddy) and tourists are not seen as a novelty anymore.

and ..... before you ask ,,,,, hubby didn't do 'kamaki' with me (I'm British) I had been working (having a great single time) and living alone in Athens Greece - 10 yrs before I met him.
