What you say is a better indication of intelligence than the accent in which it was said. I would only think you were ignorant and/or stupid if you said something that was ignorant and/or stupid. Assuming that someone with a certain accent is going to be dumb is ignorant and stupid in itself - it's judgment by stereotype. Stereotypes are seldom right.

When Dolly Parton was asked whether she minded that people thought she was a dumb blonde she replied, "No, not at all. I know I'm not dumb and I know I'm not a blonde."

Neither of those would make me think you are either ignorant or stupid. Some Americans (particularly from the stuffy Northeast where I live) have serious prejudices against the south. I wait til I get to know someone before I pass judgment, and not even then unless something glaringly racist or homophobic emerges.

I'm a speech pathologist (I teach little kids how to say their "r" among other things), and personally, I love accents. To me, it is not the accent that makes me think poorly of people, but what they are saying. And, being from Texas/Oklahoma myself, I listen about as fast as I talk, and can't quite keep up with some of the Northerners!!

it's wrong to call someone ignorant or stupid because of where they live, or how they sound.....personally, I love a good Southern accent...makes me feel at home

Where you live, and what kind of accent you have (or do not have) has absolutely no bearing on your intelligence.
