I was recently laid-off from my job (housing market sucks). We have two of our three children in day care. Our income was cut by more than ½. My wife and I tried to get help with the daycare bill ($1000.00 a month) so I could go to interviews. The agency that deals with this help told us that we both have to be working to get this help. That is all fine, but, not a week before I saw a lady pull up in a brand new 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 ($30000.00) much nicer than my Ford F150 ($6000.00). She picked up two kids and left like I did. She signed her kids out in a different book than I did, so I asked my wife about the two sign-in books. She told me one was for the people who pay and one was for the people with government help. My wife and I make good money and we struggle every month with the daycare so I know that people need help but also, I am the one who had the kids and they are my responsibility to pay for there upbringing. I get tired of paying for my kids and all the other kids. I am a republican but am not happy with the Bush leadership. My question is candidate will help the middle class the most and fix some of these programs. Should I even find this situation wrong and this doesn’t even go into the collecting unemployment headache.
Thanks for you thoughts.
P.S. I found a job within a week so this didn’t hurt me that much, but it could have, and it will hurt someone else.

Thank you everyone for all you answers.
I use to think like the ones who said I hate paying for anyones kids and should not have to. I do think there is a better way of doing things, I don't know what that is but a better way. Even if the parents are deadbeats that is not the kids fault. When I found out that I was laid off the only thing I could think about were my kids. Can I support them.
And to the person who said what the hell does Bush have to do with this? You apparently didn't read the hole comment. I do believe that the war in Iraq is the right thing but that doesn't mean that he has done good for the country overall. There are many areas that can be improved on, he hasn't done much more than the war on terror. And what would you do if your husband was laid off? Think about it, you would take the help if it feed you children.
Don't get me wrong I think the programs need change but sometimes people need help.

Yea it is wrong, people have learned how to cheat the system.
Either they lie about income and/or live (but not married) to their partner and have kids for free all paid expenses.
This is exactly why we need a smaller government, not socialism, and you sure as hell do not want a Democrat in office, think your broke now, wait till they unleash the universal health-care tax.
The problem is the programs where meant to help those in need, but now helps those whom are lazy and free loading mostly now. Our government is closer to socialism now, which in reality is the cousin of Communism.
Ain't that Ironic.
Hey Blake,
You must not know your own US history, the community use to help each other out in times, but since the government started their social crap in the 1940's, that has killed the community from helping each other because they look toward the government and each person has became individualized and do not care unless it affects them directly, before that time each person was accountable for their own actions and community worked together, but now, with liberal thinking like yours, our government systems has become a sea of lazy, want something for nothing people.
And yes I do love children, but giving their dead beat parents a free ride hurts my country, and people are getting sick and tired working everyday to better their families, only to be struggling and paying taxes to support the dead beats. I am not saying the programs to help children is wrong, but we need more accountability of our actions!!!!!!
Come on Blake, craw out of the rock you have been hiding under and see the truth. Then again you probably are like the other thousands on answer’s whom never worked a day in their life, do not know what the real world is like, and expects the government to take over after mommy and daddy quits supporting you.

You people are pathetic... Literally pathetic. How selfish can you be to say, "Their kids, their problem." What happened to the sense of community that our UNITED States once felt. Any baby becomes part of the community. If you are afraid of walking down a dark alleyway, maybe you should consider all the children you're forcing into that lifestyle by not even caring how they suffer. I'm so disgusted by you people...
Now with politics, as mentioned above, Democrat is where you'll have to go if you want help for the middle class. I'm supporting Barack Obama because he doesn't have any ties to lobbyists or special interests since he hasn't taken a cent from them this election and because of that he'll only have the promises made to Americans. When you take money from drug and insurance companies you have a LOT of promises to keep to them, when at the same time you preach about how you're going to take on these companies to make it better for the Americans. Seems shifty to me.

The way to fix these programs is to eliminate them. Neither you nor that lady deserve to have the government (your fellow taxpayers) foot the bill to have your children supervised. My husband makes $34,000 a year and I stay home with our 4 young children because there is no way we could afford to have them in childcare. I would never dream of signing up for a program to have the government pay for someone else to raise my children in a daycare setting. I would rather be poor than on the dole. Government is NEVER the solution. And just what the hell does President Bush have to do with this situation? Oh, I forgot, he's responsible for every conceivable inconvenience in the country. Silly me.

I don't think it's fair that I'm paying for anybodies children to be in day care. Parents are responsible for the children they bring into the world, not me. If both parents choose to work then they need to provide for their children on their own dime. How is it my responsibility to take care of another persons kids so they can make more money? They want a better life and I pay for it? That is what is unfair.

That's the problem with government help. There are those who know how to take advantage of the system and they do.... often for generations. You should have sought out help from a real charity. Many churches and social organizations offer child care help for those in situations of temporary need.

Being familiar with the welfare system in these here United States (Daughter a welfare Mom), I can tell you it really doesn't matter which party is in office. Those that know how to work the system are the ones that benefit from the system. You are fortunate that you are able to show your family how integrity works.

The one who is going to be the most helpful to the poor and middle class is John Edwards. I campaigned for him in the 2004 election and know him pretty well. That is, he holds round table discussions with everyday people before each stump stop. They get to bring up issues that bother them and discuss it personally with him.
He is a man who is genuinely interested in wiping out poverty, hunger, and the middle class getting the short end all of the time.
So if you want to look further into this candidate, go to his website. http://johnedwards.com/splash/

I'm guessing they were probably another race and that's why they got the help over you. Sad, but true. Another reason why they had a nicer car.
The democrates now don't really even support middle class anymore. They support anyone coming here because they want their vote.

A friend of mine and I were talking yesterday and I think we cam to a conclusion that is as true as can be.
Now a days when you are voting you are voting corporate left or corporate right. The only difference seems to be that Corporate left respects the middle class somewhat better than corporate right.

honestly, you have to vote Republican to not to expect Government hand-out.
Democrats will love to see all of us unemployed staying in line to get 'free' education, healthcare, daycare, food.
