come on if I had had the chance to safe everything before I reset it OF COURSE I would have, but it wouldnmt let me start windows at all, not even in safe mode, Itried 100 times and this was the only way to get the bloody thing to start up. I had no idea it would wipe eveything though!

Like Kitch says, if you performed a factory restore without having a backup, then the photos are gone for good.
Generally speaking a Factory restore re-images the hard disk and entirely overwrites the partition.....in short it goes back to how you got it on day one with no data on it.

I believe when RESET restore your PC to factory settings, the registry setting due to programs you installed later are erased. Your program won't run, but everything you have created should still be there. Look through My Computer>Local Disk (C:) to find the photos.
If you don't know or remember the name of the folders holding the photos (e.g. Johnnny.jpg for a picture of Johnny), bring up the Command Prompt, then..
1) Enter "cd\". this changes the prompt to c:\
2) Type in "dir *.jpg /s>c:\MyPhotoList.txt", then press ENTER. It'll run for close to a minute.
3) When the prompt returns (it's done), open the file c:\MyPhotolist.txt" with WordPad to see all JPG files in you PC.
This will show every JPG(photo) file in you C-disk.
If you have a second hard-disk or hard-disk partition, it'll show up at disk D. Then repeat Steps 1-3 with "d:" for "c:".
Now go identify the jpg files that are your photos and back them up to a CD-ROM or DVR-ROM. Right now!
If you photos were filed away by a photo editing program (e.g. Adobe Photo Shop), you can, after you've backed up you photos to DVD, re-install that program and all the settings and customization you had will be restored.
Actually, the same should go for any program you've installed and doesn't work after the RESET.

I am sorry to say this but since you used the system recovery first any information/files/photos would have been deleted and there no no way of recovering them, what you should have done first was to copy the photos to a recordable CD disk so that once the recovery operation was completed you then could copy the photos back to the PC,
however if you have a scanner you can scan the photos which you might have a copy of back on to the PC,
good luck

The Computer Restore (the factory defaults thing) resets the computer to it's state when it was first purchased. Unless you have a backup of the files somewhere then they are lost. Sorry.

You could send it to a professional data restoration company (check your local yellow pages)... but its very, very expensive. I was once charged 1000 euros to recover a 20Gb disc.
A word of warning though - every time you use you computer you are rapidly reducing the chance of recovery either by downloaded software (which someone else suggested, and which I would try) or by a professional.

I hate to tell you this but it's just like the day you pulled you pc out of the box. You are starting from the beginning...again. I have been where you are now. Please take the time to do back ups every so offten. You can do this from your recovery disk or save in backup programs online.(or just burn to a cd )You will be so glad you did. I feel for you. Good luck! Merry Christmas;-)

I am afraid that you have lost them. You should have taken a backup before resetting your system to factory condition. You may want try a good file recovery tool but you may not recover them in their healthy condition.

When a computer is reset to factory settings, normally all personal data is lost. It is for this reason that we do "Backups".

I don't know what you mean by "Restore to factory settings" did you re-install windows? did you just do a restore point? did you do a recovery installation?
Really there is not much I can help with! If the pictures aren't there, you can try to search in the Recycle Bin see if they have been marked as deleted! But most likly they are gone.

You can try to recover some of them with one of these. The chances are slim that you'll find much, but it's worth a try.
