Evette has 41 1/2ft of string. She wants to cut it into pieces 3 3/4 ft long. How many pieces of string will she have? How much string remains, if any?

I know she'll have 11 pieces of string but .06 is left over after you do the work. How would you show that in fraction form and how would you get to it?

41 1/2 divided by 3 3/4
= 83/2 (4/15) = 166/15 = 11 1/15

You must have used decimals to get the 0.06 , but it does not equal 1/15, it equals 3/50, so something must have gone wrong. Oh, I see. Because 1/15 is 0.06 repeating, you must have rounded. That's very dangerous! If you are given a problem in fractions, it is best to do it in fractions, otherwise you will have major errors.

that's it! :)

evette has 41.5ft string
she wants to cut them in to piece of 3.75ft long
so she will have totally =41.5/3.75 =11.06 strings
as decimal will not form the 3.75ft length, she will have
11 strings of 3.75ft length

& the balnce string remaining in her hand will be
41.5-3.75*11=41.5-41.25=.25ft

she will have .25ft string balncin her hand
if u want to convert .067 straight in to the remaining portion of the string then multiply with 3.75
so
.067*3.75=.2515ft or .25ft after rounding off

41 1/2 feet of string is 41.5 feet.
3 3/4 feet of string is 3.75 feet.

Cutting the string, she will end up with
41.5 / 3.75 = 11.0667
pieces of string, which is to say, 11 pieces and 0.0667 of a piece.

Since each piece is 3.75 feet long, 0.0667 of a piece is
(3.75 feet) * 0.0667 = 0.25 feet long

Thus she has 11 pieces of 3.75 feet each, and one piece of 0.25 feet.

If you have 0.06 left, that's 6/100. Simplify it and you have 3/50. =)
