TJ, No One EVER is able to deliver on a lot of the things they say during campaigns. If you think your candidate regardless of who it is can do all of the things they say while they are running you are ignoring History.

So what exactly are you even talking about. What you are saying is true of not only Paul but everone else including the person you support regardless of who it is. I already knew that as do most informed voters. It is you who are ignorant and I believe your answer reflects that.

What Promises are you refering to? The one to Veto any Unbalnced Budget that comes to him from congress? Obviously he is promising to fight for these things.

2007-12-18 02:38:37 · update #3

Like I said, what promises are you refering to. Pie in the Sky is a pretty hazy description. I will admit that Ron Paul is not likely to win the presidency even though I think his chances are better than the polls say, I will also admit that it would be extremely difficult to abolish the IRS. But end the War? Repeal The Patriot Act? Secure the Border? These are not things that are going to be difficult things to do if he is elected. What promises do you mean? Which things that he has promised to do , do you think are unaccomplishble if he is elected?

Yes he cannot directly change everything , but as the President you can do a whole bunch of indirect things.

2007-12-18 13:56:37 · update #5

Well considering that the President is the Commander in Chief it would be quite easy to station Troops at our border . As well as withdraw from Iraq. He does not need congressional approval for either of these things.

Furthermore he does not wish to Rpeal the 14th Amendment but Amend it to not include children born to non-citizens. Which is not really a make or break issue. http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul346.html

If you go to the bottom the word Amend is used.

Also the Supreme Court is now stacked to Over turn Roe. The Republicans have been plotting that one for a while now. It would probably be 5-4 in favor right now.

I want him advertising, I want poll numbers to go up (maybe commission some Zogby polls using Frank Luntz, Frank will sell his mom for some money - why not put him to good use?). Get known in time to vote, he sells himself well to most, they just don't get to hear about him 24/7 on the TV or Radio (well, at least positively).

It's great that he raised the money, now beat the pants of the other contenders that also make more grandoise pie-in-the sky claims, with faulty records, and very little new direction. I'd rather take a guy talking about real problems, and suggesting solutions (not promises), than someone having to defend their record every time they get an interview. Hillary Clinton promises, and remember, no politician has to keep any promise during their term.

Sorry Jneg, but it doesn't matter how much money Dr. Paul raises. He's never going to get the nod. And while I agree with most of his positions, I can't vote for the guy in the primaries because of all the pie-in-the-sky campain promises he's making. Either he's lying, or he's ignorant of the powers that are actually available to the POTUS. He cannot directly change everything he's promised to change. All part of the checks and balances the Constitution that you folks claim to revere has built into it. One man cannot have the power that Dr. Paul is promising to wield.

And go ahead and give me all of your thumbsdowns....it won't change the fact that I'm right.

Edit to add:
Yes Jneg, I am aware that all candidates make promises they can't keep. However, with Dr. Paul, the majority of his promises, at least the ones I've heard, are unkeepable. My question for the man is, if he is trying to run as the "honest alternative", why would he make so many promises, far more than any other candidate, that he can't keep.

Additional edit: I never claimed you were ignorant, yet you felt the need to label me as such.

Therefore, I am going to give you the opportunity to educate me. If you can show me one of the leading Republican candidates in the primaries this year for US President...just one...that has made more pie-in-the-sky promises that he cannot possibly keep than Ron Paul, then I will pledge to vote for Dr. Paul in my State's Primary.

Now, I'm not going to make this easy on you. I take this stuff very seriously, so just throwing out some name, a couple bullet points, and a few links isn't going to cut it. I want to see a line item comparison between the two, showing all of the promises, direct or implied, that Dr. Paul has made vs. all of the promises made by the candidate of your choice, and demonstrate how said promises can, or cannot be kept by each candidate (directly, not indirectly). If you can do this, then I will vote for him. In fact, I will even insert the tagline "Ron Paul 2008!" to the end of every post I make here until the primaries are over.

And don't give me the tired ol' "Go look it up for yourself" crap either. You are the one who accused me of being ignorant. I've done my research. The burden of proof lies on you. If something is out there that I don't know about that would prove me wrong on this, then I am unaware of it, and am, by very definition, ignorant on this issue. It is up to you to educate me.

If you can prove me wrong, then do so, and I will change my mind. I am quite sincere on this. I've already said that I agree with Dr. Paul on many of the issues. My main beef is with the huge amount of things he claims he'll do when he is in office that he can't possibly do, when compared to the other candidates. If you can show that I am mistaken, then I will change my support.

And unlike politicians, I don't make promises that I can't, or am unwilling to keep.

If you can't/won't prove me wrong, then you can take those accusations of ignorance, and stuff 'em where the sun don't shine.

Now's your chance to show how dedicated you are to the cause! Don't blow it!

"I will also admit that it would be extremely difficult to abolish the IRS. But end the War? Repeal The Patriot Act? Secure the Border? These are not things that are going to be difficult things to do if he is elected."

If by 'extremely difficult', you mean damn well impossible, then you're spot on with that one. And you think securing the border is not going to be a difficult thing to do? Excuse me while I take some time to control my laughter.

And how about disbanding the CIA, repealing the 14th Amendment, and overturning Roe Vs. Wade? These are only a handful of the things he's either directly said or implied that he can get done.

Let me give you a hint....so far, you're failing at your chance of getting a Ron Paul convert.

'reason he's no longer spending it. Can every physique think of of a greater suitable thank you to spend his funds than on national classified ads in the previous the "national time-honored"? is that this no longer the right time to place himself on the air, if the media won't do it for him? Why no longer take the loads and hundreds he's raised and submit some classified ads? His is the only face i've got no longer considered in an advert of his own.

Ron Paul is a pacifist coward

His candidacy is a complete and utter joke

You have to have votes to win.
Ron Paul is good at raising money, but he is still last in the polls.
Paul supporters are wasting their money and their vote.
