Is the sun over the yard arm?
j/k!
REAL answer: "It depends."
Context is the key. Why, when, with whom, how often, how much - all those are considerations. It's pretty hard to give a concrete answer to this question, really. Sometimes it's OK, sometimes not.
A beer or cocktail over lunch with your SO or a business partner? Sure, why not?! Alcohol is a social lubricant, and in restrained quantities can be a perfectly normal part of social interaction.
But if it's drinking on the job, or drinking just to be drinking, that's a different story.
You have to decide on a case-by-case basis.

I'll have a drink with lunch on the weekends. I would probably need a little nap afterwards, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it.
I've been to many European countries, and they actually expect that you will have alcohol at a daytime meal. Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Czech Rep, Austria...they're all wonderful places where people drink during the day, and no one is out-of-control. I think Americans see drinking as somewhat taboo, so they over do it.

My husband works third shift. Maybe once a month he might have a beer after work with his dinner.Maybe some people are celebrating something special with a little bit of alcoholic beverages,as long as they aren't falling over drunk and as long as they have designated drivers. If people just can have 1-2 drinks and not overdue it then why not?To me it is about people being responsible about their drinking and knowing when to stop.:)Good luck and Merry Christmas!

I have nothing against daytime drinking. Some people may work the graveyard shift and cannot drink during that time.
I also have nothing against drinking on Sunday.

Well, nothing before 4:00pm for me. It just seems weird otherwise, unnatural, plus I don't know anyone who drinks before 4:00. The one exception would be a mamosa. Who drinks orange juice in the evening?
The "big never" for me is getting drunk. I never want to lose control of my faculties or my identity as a sober individual.

There are two best times to drink, daytime and nighttime. Those are in no particular order.

if you drink enough and FAST enough , you can have time to get drunk and then take a little nap ,besides.
and then you can get up and do it again ,that nite.
if you do it that way ,
it's like getting 2 days in one.
practically doubling your life span.
now, if thats a good thing or a bad thing,
is each persons personal opinion.
when i wake up i usually think something like
"oh well, here we go again'.
too many of those in a row , and sometimes you just kinda want to sleep thru the first part of the day ,instead of making it seem like 'a double' .

I'm pretty much against drinking ( alcohol ) as a whole ;-P So for me, never.
For others - just do it responsibly. Don't drink and drive, or drink before driving, or at work. Or over do it.
