But that would depress me, and I am sure I would not be alone. If someone is depressed because of the holidays, they need to make changes themselves. We can all decide to stress less, buy less, mend fences with loved ones, and think of others. If you feel sad, try doing something for someone who is worse off than you, and see how much better you feel as a result.

Ban it just because very small minority of people react negatively?

I'm not much of a holiday person, but people who get depressed have other reason for their depression and that needs to be fixed.

Good Luck.

No but I think we could be far more considerate of our friends and relations who don't have any or much money for presents or even utilities. We need to think about those who are alone, ill (either physically or emotionally), and I wish the damn television would not have so many commercials for consumer goods, THAT adds to frustration in those of us without bucks to buy all the presents we'd love to give.

Here's what I do to try to get through the holidays without being too depressed:

Watch lots of holiday movies and remind myself that they are just movies and not real life but still nice to watch.

Make presents after having cut up my credit cards. It's very satisfying to have finished crocheting two feet of scarf yesterday!

Remember there are lots of people far worse off than me.

Try not to have unattainable expectations for the holidays and just to get through them in one piece!

Don't think of it as just the one day of holiday but a whole holiday season that way if one day sucks the whole time frame is still decent.

Avoid the malls, watching children sit on Santa's lap, and occasions will be truly depressing and/or frustrating.

I made it through Thanksgiving in one piece, all by myself, cooked a turkey and everything, watched the parade, and was amazed that I had a decent day! It CAN be done!

Good luck to you and those out there who will be alone for the holidays. We CAN survive them in one piece!

No, why let a few sour apples ruin it for everyone else? You can never make everyone happy at the same time. The most you can do it try to make it better for those who are depressed. Too often people forget about the true meaning of Christmas. It's about giving, friendships, helping, etc.

Ban holidays because some losers cant get a grip and get on with their lives? Hmmm....let me see...uhhh....NO! Bad things happen in everyones lives. The weak wallow in their misery and become "depressed"; the strong grieve, recover and remember life is about living.

NO! definately not. holidays can be stressful but so are other things, next thing you know people will be banning malls and vacations just because they can make people stress out.
