As a trucker I have to follow Federal laws anyway, so why not just have a federal ID?
makes too much sense to me!
it could have a RFD chip and a bar code together as far as that goes. I am not scared and I have nothing to hide (it is easier to hide in a crowd anyways) I am tired of people thinking that driving is a "right" it should be a privilege. I would lose my whole livelyhood if I lost my license and end up in the poor house but I have come to terms with this and think it should be a nationwide agenda to keep highways safe and secure.
why arn't we moving forward with this??

It's a great idea and makes plenty of sense which is why it won't be happening anytime soon.
Those opposed to it use the "Big Brother" argument.
They would have us believe that knowing who people are would somehow violate their civil rights.

driving has historically been regulated by the states.

Congress isn't too keen on interfering. It would create another huge Federal bureaucracy with 200 million records to be hacked or trashed.

Besides, Congress would have to figure out how the "general welfare" clause of the Constitution would give the Federal government the power to intervene. This will be a difficult task as the proportion of the population who would benefit [those who drive interstate for pay] is only a small part of all Americans.

Might be your best chance would be to support the National ID act as part of the war on terrorism and then extend it to include the privilege to drive.
