Not sure if I agree or not. Could be they have their own laws there so its not my business...but I do know there are times when court has stepped in to stop people from naming their babies curse words and other crazy things..... I think its good thing.... someone sticking up for the kid when the kid cant.

Other countries have different ideas about naming children. Several have databases and you're only allowed to pick from those names - you can't use an foreign name or a made up name, etc. Personally, I don't really care. I suppose if I lived there, I'd might be upset that I only had so much to choose from (although it's not like there are only 20 names on the list), but considering I'm an American, it really doesn't concern me.

I disagree, but alas, they never consulted me. My parents, in the late 50's and early 60's got flack from the parish priest when they went to baptize 3 out of 4 of their children, since they did not have saint's names. My father threatened to not have us baptised. That ended any discussion..... and this was on LI, in NY, not Italy. So it's a matter of perception.

i think it is ridiculous that the court would not let the parents name their son Friday, i think that the parents should have a right to name their child whatever they want, and no one should criticize a name for being unique.

Since when do the courts get to decide on how a mother and father should name their baby!!! I mean from a woman's stand point, she carried him for 9 months and then went in to however many hours of labor to give birth. I think she more than deserves the right to name her baby whatever she wants. From the Father's standpoint he contributed to making that baby!! Those are his genes in the baby his genetic makeup. So he has the right to name the baby whatever he chooses. I mean the kid could be made fun of with the name gregory. I mean come on, it is pretty sad that someone had to intervene and tell these two people on what to name their child.

Well although it is the country's policy on the giving of names, I believe it is an infraction on a parent's ability to have precedence over their own child.

I think Friday is a better name than most of the trailer-park names people in the US make up!!! I am soooo tired of the Kaelisha's and Taya's that these moms make up. There was a mom on Yahoo who wanted to name her daughter Bryce. Can you imagine a 50 year old woman named Bryce??? It sounds like she would be an old hag!!!
In case anyone reads this: Do your child a favor and pick a classic name that will HELP the child later in life. Think: What if Kaelisha applies to medical school 22 years from now...will her name help or hinder her chances? If you think that the educated people of the world will not pre-judge you based on a white-trash name, you're foolish.
Remember: Your need to be 'creative' is not as important as your child's chance of success!
Got that, Trayleena?
I digress....Friday isn't that bad.

Kudos for Italy! That was such a stupid name to name a kid all for publicity sake.
