I want a special design and look for my website. I buy a special font called “Gadget” and put all my headlines in that font. Will I have a problem with my design scheme in doing this?

Probably. In order for people to see the text in the Gadge font, they would have to have that font installed on their computer. If they do not, everything will be convert to their computer's default font (usually Times New Roman).

The only way to "force" an odd font like Gadget on to everyones computer is to convert the text where you want to use it to graphics and then paste them in. That may be an issue for people with dial-up or slow Internet connections, or with people who have the graphics turned off on their browser.

Generally you should only use fonts on your web site that are normally included with computers when they ship. Examples include Times New Roman, Arial, Verdana, and Helvetica.

If you really want to use that font, you have a few options:
1) Specify it as a font, but provide alternatives for those that do not have the font installed:

2) Create an image using the font. Remember though: If you are creating a lot of content with multiple headlines, this will get very tedious.

3) If you are more advanced, you can create a simple one-frame Flash movie that reads the headline text as a movie parameter and displays it in the font you'd like to use. ESPN.com has used this method in the past, for example.

Yes, other people who don't have the font installed won't see it, unless you embed it in images.
