when reading posts regarding the true meaning of Christmas do you "really" make it a point to understand it and practice it or do you find yourself staying in "socialized traditions" because that's what you're use to?

this is a serious question...honest opinions are welcomed

I have to be honest, I vent about the lack of cooperation I get from my kids who say they love this season yet don't want to be bothered with the chores that need to be done so we can enjoy each other .......and let's face it, I can't do it all alone! We take an agreed on portion of our budget and buy gifts for needy children, we usually make the time to go through the things we have and donate what we no longer use that are in good condition, we decorate our home with the things that most make us feel warm and close and have a special time that is ours alone to share and exchange gifts. This year seems to be lacking in enthusiasm and I wonder what I have done or not done to foster the spirit of family and giving that we have enjoyed in the past. We have created our own traditions and pretty much ignore the societal shop til you drop commerciality. And it just doesn't seem like the special time it usually is.

When I was about 11 my Dad cut out Christmas at our house completely. I was devastated. I also suspected that it was really the fact that he though my mom had spent too much the Christmas before and not the Religious Wrong he claimed that had stirred him. True Christmas may be as different to each of us as our traditions. And Venting and B'''''' rarely makes anyone change anything. I still celebrate the warmth of family and friends at christmas. If you Vent at people perhaps your understanding of Christmas is also lacking.

I guess I am guilty of the fact that although I do know the true meaning of Christmas I do find that I stay within the "socialized traditions" because that is what I grew up with and it is the way that I know!!

well i don't really "celebrate" christmas "like that" to me it's just another day. to me unless you have kids or are around lots of them. . . . what's the point becuase christmas is for kids in my opinion but that is just my opinion. and no those venting "b**ching" questions don't make me change the way i view, or "celebrate" christmas, to me thier questioning is a waste of time so i generally don't answer.

Christmas in America is a birthday celebration in a capitalistic society and profits will be made from it just as with any other holiday. I don't have a problem with it for I have always celebrated Christmas for what it it.

one of the "socialized traditions" of Christmas shopping/thanksgiving shopping is black friday...I don't participant in stuff like that b/c its so materialistic and shallow. ppl miss the whole point of the holidays ESPECIALLY Christmas b/c of shallow traditions like that
its sad that ppl ESPECIALLY CHRISTIANS don't know the point of putting christmas lights up during Chrismas, its sad that ppl don't know teh reason why we give presents
