The only subject I cared about in school was English. With this being said, I believe this would be the only thing I would go to school for. I love to read, write, and I also love to work on projects such as essays. I heard that there may not be a shortage of English teachers though. I also don't know if I want go in to teaching or not. What other jobs could I get with an English degree? I have heard from many people that having an English degree is useless. Do you believe this is true?

No, there's never really a shortage of English teachers - at least in English-speaking countries. English as a second language teachers, on the other hand, are very much in demand, so that might be something for you to consider if you do decide you have an interest in teaching.

If you decide against teaching, English has many other uses: editing and publishing, marketing, PR, development, research, administrative and managerial jobs, journalism (with some training and experience in that area), even web design if you have the computer skills. Just because it's not always directly applicable doesn't make it useless: every field needs people who can write.

Journalism, broadcasting, tech writing, sales, writing, library science, researcher, advertising, public relations, sales -- I once had a friend who worked for a high tech company rewriting what the engineers wrote into English so the common folk, you know, stockholders, could understand what they were working on.

You could be a "technical writer" for one of the computer manufacturers. Another option would be a "proof reader".
