Depends on the level of the degree. I know many social workers with an MSW that make between 50 and 100K and many phd psychologists that make less than 50 K as college profs. The Phd is a research degree usually but if put into private practice (starting your own business) the income is unlimited. It all depends on the specifics of your career goals and level of education you plan on acheiving

Psychologist make quite a bit more. Pay scales in the public sector always have psychologists are a higher pay grade and in private practice they usually can charge more then a social worker.

As a trainee sw I would like to think that I will, but I know that I prob won't. I think that it has something to do with the fact that there are a big majority of women in sw, not so much as psychologists. In the Uk sw started out just as do gooder wealthy women telling others how to better themselves - of course things have changed a lot, but I think that history, and the lack of a degree qualification until 5 years ago have had their effect.

starting out, psychologists get paid more (maybe $15,000/year), but further down the line, like after 5- 10 years working, they make the same.
