How many feel that these shows should be put on TV? I am ashamed to think of all the children who will grow up and see their parents and family members making such fools of themselves on national TV. And you know, some "good intentioned friend/family/neighbor" will make sure they do. Who agrees with me, and why?

I'm not so much embarrassed about Maury Povich as I am with Jerry Springer. Not only does Jerry have all these shows about who's sleeping with who, and sick fetishes involving candy, meat, chocolate and (GOD FORBID) animals, but the worst thing is that with the accents of the guests they have, you can guess they're either from the South or the Midwest. (Especially when a guest says they're from Alabama or Mississippi, or if a guest comes out dressed in some sort of Western gear, which leads to that bloody hick song playing and the audience doing a do-si-do in the spectator's area or onstage.) This show stereotypes those people as being white trash redneck yokels and hicks. *Vomits violently*

To firebird, you say you don't like talk shows, but do you mean this as a whole? At least Ellen DeGeneres and Dr. Phil McGraw, as examples, give off some sort of class and decency that some talk shows seem to be lacking.

I agree. For the same reasons. I really like Maury's wife, Connie Chung, but all his shows seem to be about is paternity. Jerry Springer show is "set up" a lot of the time. I know at one time they had a couple of "local celebrities", (wrestlers from our area)
on there pretending to be someone different. I imagine that happens alot.

I agree with you but with a little "tongue in cheek."

It is a terrible thought to believe that those "People" actually represent the average American lifestyle. To know that they are actually paid "actors" also makes it a shame because that is deception on the part of the show. If they would announce beforehand that the people represented are in fact actors, that could help.

But even then, it is an embarrasment and an insult to the average intelligence of Americans to have that crap broadcast on T.V. as being factual.

I saw a commercial the other day that they were giving away babies' onesies that said "I met my dad on Maury". I almost spit out my coffee I started laughing so hard. But seriously, who would want to do that to their kid, as if not being able to determine who the kid's dad was, wasn't bad enough. Then you want to parade them around in that t-shirt?
