As a child, I was afraid of dying. Now it's losing my health, independence, dignity and having to face the death of close family and friends. Imagine living to be 100 and maybe outliving your children and all of your immediate family and friends. I hope to live to a good old age and get a good few years of my pension, but without your health, independence, dignity and close family and friends would you be happy?.

Not being able to better oneself. Say you're alive and the people you love are alive. Well eventually they will die and so will you. If there is nothing to interest you, then you have life, with nothing and no one to live for. Self-actualization is a big goal of mine. Right now you have your bills to pay, your college, girlfriend soon to be wife, kids, grandchildren, family, hobbies, learning. But when that all ends, either due to death, problems of isolation, or the bads out weighing the good, you'll have to find new fields of interest. So all in all living with nothing to live for is what frightens me most about growing old.

the lack of care for the ederly here in the states! sad when you see them homeless because they fought for our freedom and worked to help the community only to be rejected from SSI over 3 time time after you put so much into it!

basically the " * " on my SS statement! Subject to change

so when i'm 80 and i can't work i have to fight like a dog just to get shelter and food!
that's scary!
I mean it is why i work now so i don't worry and I have built other retirment funds up for my self so I don't have to relay on our goverment who could really care less!
i will admit there job is hard! but other country's don't seem to have that problem ..

So i guess i have already built a plan to over come my fear of older age!

Losing contact with my family. We all know 'family' is the greatest and most precious gift of all, and provides a reliable 'bond' we cannot afford to lose as the years roll by. Friends are okay, but some friends a fair-weathered - here today and gone tomorrow.

I wouldn't say it frightens me. But it bothers me to know that important people in my life will die and i will grow old without them.

I have long term health problems and I've already had to leave my job and stop playing drums. It's getting more and more difficult to walk, and my biggest fear is that things will keep getting worse, and that I will lose even more of my independence

Loss of independence would be number one. I would never want to be a burden to my children. Running out of money and needing help financially....Not being able to live in my home. Having a terminal illness.......
