I think that powerpoints can enhance a learning experience, but I don't think that it is effective. Usually, the powerpoints are really boring, and I think that a lot of students tune them out, as they would any boring lesson. I have had college professors who use powerpoints, and some have done it right, using it only to prove a point, but some just rely on it to teach for them and that doesn't work. However, it does help when teachers put them on blackboard for students to review at their own leisure.

Hi,

In simple terms, almost always the answer is "yes." Certainly the ability to put clear text and images on screen instead of crappy chalk handwriting on blackboard does wonders for improving understanding.

A teacher who applies what they have been taught about audiences (attention spans, how to use interactivity) and knows what to do in front of class will use PowerPoint effectively. For this teach PowerPoint is a dream come true and also for this teacher's students.

A boring teacher who relies on mostly on text and does not engage the class won't do any better with PowerPoint.

It's not the hammer - it's the carpenter that matters most.

To be honest, I've never watched a training powerpoint presentation that hasn't gone wrong at some point.

I think it does add to a lesson. I liked to make them to introduce new topics and vocabulary words. I also enjoyed seeing one's that my students created.
