"have proven" - not "have proved"
And it really depends on what it is you've wanted them to do. If, for instance, you wanted them to single-handedly end a war waged by a country that doesn't allow ANY politician to do ANYTHING single-handedly... well, then you're the fool, not them.
So it really depends upon what expectations you're trying to assign to a group you don't belong to.

If people thought that way a majority of our Presidents would never have been President. Some have ability others do not. YOUR opinion might be quite different about a legislator than other people have. If a Senator or Congressperson doesn't represent you than you really have no say in how well or how poorly they are doing. If their constituents are happy that is all that matters. They may do alot for the people they represent, that is their job, and not be all that visible to the rest of the world. Some people love the world to "see me, see how good I am" and others just do what needs to get done.
Quite frankly I would rather vote for someone with at least a few years of experience on the hill than someone who has no idea how Washington works.

I would vote for a mayor of a large city before I would even think of voting for a 1st time senator with nothing before that. I would like to see a list of the qualifications of all persons running for president both sides, then i will choose. Real qualifications, being 1st lady isn't a qualification.

No, and neither will anyone else. The last President elected out of the Senate was Kennedy.

In a field of 100, or 435, I can live with an inability to do anything. What I can't stand is an unwillingness to do anything.

Yes, Senators and Congressmen have national political experience, Governors do not.

I voted for Dole but that was an exception. Governors -- or Mayors of New York --- make better Presidents.
