Depends on the religion. I'm Catholic and most babies are baptized around 2-4 mos of age. It's a whole family affair and everyone goes. I think it sort of defeats the purpose if only the parents and godparents are there, as it's presenting your baby to God and to the world. It'd be ok to invite only family and not friends, but I think it's weird not to invite anyone.

We had both christenings between 3 to 6 months. My wife made a party of the christening and had family and friends over the house. I think we had 20 to 30 people over.
It is up to you on how big you would like the event.
Are there certain family members that may be looking forward to the event?

Our son will be christened (catholic) between 1-2 years of age.
We'll be having close family & friends, but there's nothing wrong with just the parents and godparents going. That's a personal choice.

We're having our baby's christening when she will be 6 months old and it will only be close family and godparents there. I think having just the godparents and parents there would be nice, and very special.

Our baby has godparents, but has never been christened, baptised or even had a naming ceremony. What's the usual age in your church? Or if you don't go to church, I guess you get it all done when you have the energy to organise it! I suspect your parents and in laws will get upset if they aren't invited to the christening.

3 and a half months, 100 guests. about the parents and godparents, that's totally okay since Christening is about welcoming a human being into the Catholic faith. the celebration is just secondary, if not incidental :)

It's fine to have it more or less private. Both our grandchild were christened at about 4 months. There were a lot of the extended family...maybe 20 people at both. But, just who you said is fine. Congrats! Ozzie

I dont believe in christening your child as its better to let your child have the decision, both my kids havent been christened when they are old enough if they wish to be christened then i will respect that
