I work for ford and bought a mazda ( its a sister of ford). Owner where i work isnt happy. Is it illegal for them to treat me different from any other employee or even fire me?

Your Boss is an idiot because ford owns Mazda and tell the Ford cooperation about this about your stupid boss fired you because you drive a Mazda.

I can see it from both sides. Yes Mazda has been associated with Ford for many years so it's at least in the "Family".
But from his point of view, how are you going to sell the customer a Ford if you don't believe in it enough to buy it yourself?
Both points have some merit, but if your boss is giving you a lot of hassle about it, just point out that not everyone that works there drives a Ford, nor should they be expected to.
I seriously doubt they would actually treat you different and firing you would be suicidal from a business perspective. You don't have much to worry about. But just to be safe you probably don't want to park up front for a while.

Would this be an issue if you bought a Lincoln or a Mercury? Ford owns 33,9% of Mazda and considers Mazda a Ford brand. So just tell you boss that you drive a Ford Motor Company car.

Ya, a while ago. But no, Mazda's aren't bad cars just cause they're owned by Ford. I know the American Auto Companies have been getting a bad rep but they're aren't bad cars. If you buy a Ford or Chevy it doesn't mean it will break in a couple years. They are safe cars. Sure, Toyota's and Honda's are super reliable but Ford's and Chevy's are still good cars. Don't hate on the American Cars

That's stupid! Mazda even offers S-plan pricing! Is it illegal to fire you? Generally no because 49 out of 50 states are "at-will state." They can fire you if they don't like how you look.
Is it illegal to fire you because of what you drive? No! People driving Mazdas are not a class prescribed by law that employer cannot exclude (although I'd like it to be. I drive a Protege). If you work at a Ford assembly plan and they want you to park far away, that has been held to be ok.
Unless you are black, a women, senior etc. that you can prove you were fired because of those things, you are out of luck.

He is not mad because you bought a Mazda. He is mad because you didn't spend your money at his store. It would be the same if you bought a Mercury or Lincoln.
I have heard of similar problems with Coke and Pepsi employees using the competing products. If they want to fire you, they can find a way. If you are valuable, they will put up with a lot of BS.

one of my best friends who is an engineer at Ford for 22 years drives a Mazda and hasn't had any problems with anybody.

Yeah its illegal if that's why you got fired. Its sorta funny that your boss doesn't realize that Ford owns controlling share of Mazda and share entire vehicles between them.

I am not sure if it is illegal or not. However my husband is a Union Electrician and he has a list of cars that the UNION APPROVES of basicallly cars that are made in the USA by Union workers.
People who buy cars not on the list often get hassled by coworkers........
Mazdas are still considered foreign cars. Fords suck quit your job, sell your Mazda and get a job and car from GM!

well, 1) it sounds discriminatory. you can always report them to the Better Business Bureau, but
2)it sounds like a private business, so reasonably they can ask you to get another car,
there's definitely precidence for this tho. GAP makes their employees buy and wear only their clothes to work. AGEdwards doesnt allow its employees to have any investments with its competitors. and so on...
so you may not get fired, that sounds kinda harsh... but there's a point of concern
