Sadly, I believe it's true. Even if it is not intentional it happens. For some it is a matter of being in a comfort zone, you know, taking those around you for granted. For others it can be a habitual thing>like kids for example, lashing out at their parents because they can't have their way. Luckily, there is forgiveness! Sometimes surviving a hurt can make a relationship stronger if there is forgiveness involved. A heart can grow cold and weary if it does not forgive.

I think that's true most of the time.
If someone says something mean about you, it would hurt most if you really cared for their opinion ( generally, someone you love.) It works the other way too, right?
Plus, we tend to be a little careless with the ones we love, and land up saying something hurtful.

Very true. People who don't love you don't care what you think. I also think words are the most deadly weapon in existence. So yes, absolutely I could hurt my boyfriend more with my words than I ever could hurt a stranger or anyone that isn't close to me, like a coworker or mailman.

Sure, it's true. If you don't care about someone then it shouldn't matter what they think. Therefore, the only ones who can hurt us are those we love. Same reason people who have been hurt in love try to avoid falling in love again, to avoid being hurt.
And don't your kids hurt you all the time, saying mean things, worrying you to death when they're out late, etc?

I believe it would be more accurate to say that we hurt the ones we feel the most comfortable around.

yes, because they're the people you're closest to. for instance, if you call your enemy stupid, they wouldnt care too much because they probably think the same of you and dont value your opinion. but if, in the heat of an argument, you call a lover or a friend or family member stupid, it'll hurt like hell because they love you and care about what you think.
