What formula did the nazis use to "rule" countries that they have invaded and were occupying?

Did they put up posters saying you are now under the rule of the german reich and must your government will be run from Berlin? or make radio announcement to that effect. Just how were the day to day business of running those countries handled? and by whom? and lastly how did the patriots of those countries react to how their countries were being run while under occupation?

they did things differently in different areas

in northern France they ruled it directly with an appointed governor

in southern france they set up the "Vichy" government that was run by frenchman Petain that was semi-automonous as long as they did everything the germans demanded

in Poland they actaully dismembered most of the country, renamed large sections of it and made them part of germany, deporting people to a central area around warsaw who did not aquiescse

in Russia/Ukraine they depopulated (exterminated) whole areas of territory (to make room for german settlers) and used the rest of the population as slave labor
