Give it a little time to settle in. ^^ Some birds will start chirping and chatting the same day, but others take a while because they may still be stressed out. (It may also just be a quiet bird - every bird will protest a bit when being put in a box.) After it settles, try singing to it and playing with it to help it get used to you.
Also, if the bird is the only one there and it came from a group, it might be unsettled because it has no other avian buddies to keep it company. Parakeets generally like having other birds with them, especially if their pet human is away. So if some time goes by, and it's still pretty quiet, you might want to try getting a parakeet buddy for it.

Be patient! He needs plenty of time to adjust to his new cage, environment and new owner. Going to a new home is very stressful for a bird so it's wise to lower your expectations for the first couple of weeks. Sit down next to his cage and read to him... or just sit and talk with him. Don't try handling him too much at first and this will help him adapt. Once a bird starts vocalizing in it's new home, that's a good sign that he's starting to feel comfortable there. The most important thing right now is that he's eating and drinking. Also be sure he has millet in his cage at all times during the first week or two.
Good luck.

Your new baby is frightened. It is never, however, too early to socialize your budgie. You can start by putting your bird cage in a high traffic area of the house, so he can get used to all the new sights and sounds. That way he won't be quite so scared. In addition, he can watch you as you go about your business. Keets are very curious birds, and love to watch what people are doing, so he will probably start to mimic noises her hears in the first few days. Don' be surprised if you hear him mimicking the fridge noise, or something off the TV.
You should start finger training him in the first few days as well, so he is less inclined to bite or go nuts when your hand is in the cage to change water and food.
If you socialize your bird well enough, he will want to ride on your shoulder all day and "help" you with whatever you are doing in the house. He may even opt to take his showers with you instead of the bird bath.
These are fascinating little creatures and loads of entertainment for years. Have fun with your new keet!

First off, you have to give him a chance to get used to his new home. It may take a few days. But to help play some music for him, preferably classical music. His may make him feel more at home and he might try and chirp along. My bird loves any music, but classical was first on his list. He is tweeting all the time now and when I put on the radio he chirps along. I hope your bird will soon be at home and be singing for you. Good Luck!

When my parakeets first saw my place they were quiet, then after two days they were as noisy as heck! It might sing if it's a male (blue cere) but if it's a female(brown cere) it won't sing.

Your parakeet needs to adjust to its new environment. As soon as it is comfortable and relaxed it will do its thing. Switch on the radio with soft soothing music that might relax him and get him out of his shell.
