i used to be a nurse and i had to give this guy a bed bath and document an assessment including all scars and marks on his body.
He had a stroke and was paralyzed-but anyway he had a small vine tattooed on his thingy with some writing along side of the vine. I had to stretch his thingy out to read what the writing said. The writing said "Cherry Picker"

No SH** -this is a true story

Tribal designs stopped being personal and esoteric once they became popular and studios started offering them as flash work.

If you want something that people will admire, and that you'll be proud to have on your body, why not design something yourself, or adapt something you've seen in a painting? I got many of the influences for mine from Medieval and Renaissance art books, and customized them. A good tattoo is all about the intricacy of the detail or the finesse of the style, not the size. The worst tattoos are those which were clearly gotten because the owner just wanted a tatoo, but didn't have an idea what.

Umm...... tribal armband?! YUCK! That should be a big NO! Why don't you google some ideas/things you like; or go into your local tattoo studio and check out portfolios and get an idea from there. Then your artist can draw something up just for you.
But whatever you do, PLEASE STAY AWAY from tribal AND armbands!

My favorite kinds of tattoos on guys (or anyone, for that matter) are ones that are done well (by a good artist) and have personal significance to that individual. I might not be a personal fan of skulls or the like, but if it's done well and means a lot to the wearer, then I have no reason to not like it.

Don't get a tattoo to please someone else. Chances are, you're not going to be into pleasing that someone (or someones) in 10, 20, 30+ years. Tattoos are with you for life. Make sure you get something that's not going to cause you to look at your arm in a few years and go, "What on earth was I thinking???"

I don't really care for the upper arm band tat. I prefer tattoos on the calf, back tats, or on the chest, but that is just my opinion.
As for the size and image, I think your best bet would be to really put some thought in it. I don't recommend flash. A tattoo really needs to be personalized and something that you'll want to live with forever. You should get exactly what you want, where you want it.

get a tattoo that has some meaning nt something that in 5 years you are going to go.. why the heck did i get this... i know a few people that have spent lots of money covering up stupid tattoos that they got either because the couldnt make up their mind and were in a hurry to get one.. or were drunk... try and get something not every guy has...when you show your ink to some one you want to be proud of it and have a story of why you got it.. not just cause you thought it was cool!
good luck! shop around some.. and make sure the person doing it is safe and clean!

I dont really have a perference on what I like best... but on a guy i like his tats to be on his shoulder or lower leg, i dont like them to be very big so probably about a small to medium sized tat... something that reflects his personality

To me tribal bands on the upper arm are kinda masculine. How about your lower abdomen or your wrist or ankle?

Pretty much anything but that - really?! armband tribal? C'mon how unoriginal!

Don't get a tattoo for the "ladies" - get it for yourself. Be very sure you want one and make sure it represents something important to you.
