No, I'm not against a draft. In fact, I think the United States should have mandatory time served. All young men, and perhaps some women too, should serve two years before they turn 25, like Austria does. As a result, their people are much more highly educated, well behaved, and have one of the lowest crime rates in the world. I think our young men could benefit from a little extra life discipline and lesson in personal responsibility, and so would our country.

Before I spout off let me assure you that I was drafted into the Air Force and it worked out just great for me. I had studied many books on electronics, Air Force special exams, math, etc. and I received high grades. When I was drafted they immediately placed me into the Air Force. Lucky me! I was in the Air Force for 3 1/2 years and although it wasn't always fun I basically enjoyed my stay. I had a good job in electronics which was taught to me and teaching me the ins and outs of electronics took 1 1/2 years of my total training. It made a man of me because I was wise guy when I went in and they soon knocked out the wise guy temperament out of me. After my tour my mother couldn't recognize me. She said that I had grown up and that I was worldly. I cannot say that every person's experience will be the same as mine but if a person takes the military seriously and really tried hard to succeed he/she can find it to be a very informative experience. It will shape up the youth of America. Obviously, I am suggesting that you try to get a first class job rather than be a grunt which can be very tough. I am for the draft because I saw what a positive effect it has on young people who have never been away from home before.

With the culture of our country I would be against because an all-voulunteer army works as long as the whole country is on the same page about our foreign policy.
Many nations have mandatory conscription which works for them becasue of the nature of thier society and economic policies.... Italy, Israel, Turkey to name a few
drafts are usually met with anger and rebelion (Vietnam) unless the country agrees to the goals (WWII). A society with mandatory conscription have many ways to get out of service becasue everyone else is in it. A recent report from ISrael is that 75% of eligible persons are drafted at 18 .So 1/4 of the people find excuses not to serve even in a mandatory setting. And even in that setting with so many epople in the army not everyone would be in a combant or traditional military role.... there would be a vast network of social service jobs in that would be handled by the military

I'm opposed to a draft but I'm in favor of compulsory service. I think 18-24 months in the military for every medically elegible person would do some good for our country. I know the military has helped me, I'm sure it could do the same for others.

I believe that we should have a draft with enlistment lasting no more than a year initially (re-ups 2+ yrs) in times of war. It would, of course, include women. We need to maintain quality in the armed services. I shudder when I think of some of the people they're letting in now....criminals, people who can barely read or write, people with low iq's, etc.
Considering the effect this war is having on our enlisted mentally & physically because we don't have enough troops, I see the draft as necessary.

Nope, why because I can't be touched and can not be drafted. Why, you might ask? Because when this country called, I answered willingly. I think everyone should, atleast, go through military bootcamp. We'd have less assholes out on the streets if that was the case.

Only in time of war!
The draft would require politicians to have a personal stake in every war, not just sending strangers to die, but family.
War would end
(As long as political loopholes were not available to save the rich)

No, all able bodied males at the age of 18 years should be required to serve a minimum term in any of the military branches.
