I wouldn't want to live forever, the world is a scary place. The way jobs are being eliminated and companies are downsizing, and pollution escalating, I'm scared for my children! But it's not selfish to want that. Besides, we don't have much control over that, anyway. And to look at "population control", people have smaller families than ever before. When death rates were higher hundreds of years ago, people could have dozens of children, because death in infancy was common, and living past 60 wasn't too common, either. Today, people are choosing to be childless or use birth control to have smaller families, so we see an aging population, but not much growth. Countries like Russia and France are encouraging families to have more children.

It is god's plan for people to live on the earth without death...that means living in the flesh forever.
Scripture backs this up.
(PSALM 72:16) There will come to be plenty of grain on the earth; On the top of the mountains there will be an overflow. His fruit will be as in Leb′a·non, And those who are from the city will blossom like the vegetation of the earth.
This scripture is stated without any limitation to the number of people on earth.
It means no more starvation. And we see plenty of deprivation these days. so it must be future.
(REVELATION 21:4) And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
Death and sickness can only apply to living people.
And if everyone goes to heaven at death...which they do not...there is not much point in making conditions on the earth any better.
The only mention in the Bible of anyone having a heavenly future is found at ;
(REVELATION 20:4) And I saw thrones, and there were those who sat down on them, and power of judging was given them. Yes, I saw the souls of those executed with the ax for the witness they bore to Jesus and for speaking about God, and those who had worshiped neither the wild beast nor its image and who had not received the mark upon their forehead and upon their hand. And they came to life and ruled as kings with the Christ for a thousand years.
These ones have a specific job...and not just sitting around on a cloud.

Not at all.
Because if I live forever, I shall be able to serve myself and in turn mankind better than most is what I feel. So I am not ashamed of or think myself to be selfishwhen i want to live forever.

You do live forever. You live it freely in this life and depending upon how you live this life determines how the other half(hereafter) will be like.
This life is drop in the bucket compared to the next. Don't sacrifice all eternity for the love of this world :)

not sure I can see what would be selfish about it Poppy
but I have never really thought about wanting it...
I believe that we live eternally in spirit
but even the word eternal means without a recognised period of time .... not forever

It's not if it doesn't affect others' well-beings.
Then again, I doubt I would want to live in this world forever.
I personally think that there could be a possibility that we're actually a constantly living being.

not only do christians hope to live forever, they hope to live forever alone.
it is a core teaching of most christian churches (particularly evangelical ones) that marriage and sex are both unknown in heaven. christians consider the epitome of bliss to be freedom from other people.
of course, for christians 'other people' tends to mean 'other christians'.
maybe i can see their point after all.
