Thanks guys! The question seems pretty interesting. My teacher told me the correct one is #1,and she said the correct one will be #2 if you put 'the only' before 'one'——Jasper White is the only one of those rare people who believes in antient myths.
Hey,what do you think?

#2 because Jasper's the one doing the believing. So it's
Jasper.....who believes .....
And also "who" refers to Jasper, so it's singular and would take "believes".

I am afraid that the answerer who thinks that "believes" must agree with "Jasper White" is mistaken. No. 1 is actually the correct sentence, because the verb has to agree with the plural subject "people"; although "people" is a collective noun, it still takes a plural verb.
"Jasper White is one of a section of the community which believes in ancient myths" would take a singular verb.

Neither is acceptable. The first sentence has a verb conjugation that's wrong. " ... one ... who believes ..." is correct. In the second sentence, "ancient" has only one "t," not two.
Should be: "Jasper White is one of those rare people who believes in ancient myths."

Consider the sentence like this:
(subject)(verb)(object)
(Jasper) (is) (object)
Jasper white is (object)
So the last section of the sentence is the object:
Jasper white is (fat)
Jasper white is (one of those people)
Jasper white is (one of those people who eat cake)
Jasper white is (one of those rare people who believe in ancient myths)
THEREFORE #1.
#2 WOULD be right if you said: Jasper white, who believes in ancient myths, is one of those rare people. But this is actually changing the sentence meaning.

1) SHOULD BE...
Jasper White is one of those rare people who believes in ancient myths. (believe should be believes)
2) SHOULD BE...
Jasper White is one of those rare people who believes in ancient myths. (antient should be ancient)

Number 2.
You are referring to Jasper White as ONE... that is singular... so use the word BELIEVES.

Must be #1. Why? Because you must use "believe" for third person plural. Why? Because the pronoun "who" is the subject of "believe" and "who" refers to "people", which is a plural noun.
Do you say "People are crazy" or "People is crazy"?
The first answerer was wrong to say Jasper White is the subject of "believe" . Jasper White is the subject of "is".
